OLD BUSINESS
>DUES---We still have five members that owe dues for this year. Invoices have been included in this mailing if you are now past due.
>Formula One Track Project-Ray reminded us that due to low ticket sales, stand five will not be open for the race. The track offered to call us if a different stand became available, and Mike told them we would work one that was only open on race day(9/28) if one became available. A different booth has not became available yet.
>Civic Award Committee-Todd reported that Judy Whitaker, this year’s winner, has agreed to be at the annual appreciation dinner for the Civic Award presentation. Jack has ordered the plaques and everything is ready to present the award.
>Appreciation Dinner-This year’s Appreciation Dinner at the Hilltop is scheduled for Monday, October 27th at 7:00PM. District Governor Wanda Wentland will be there to present the Melvin Jones award. If you have not signed up, and you would like to attend, please contact Todd Lewis ASAP(795-5086)---And if you have signed up, please be sure to attend—the club will have to pay for your meal if you miss!
>FunFest- Todd Lewis reported that the club made $33.24 selling Schwan’s ice cream and pop at the FunFest. Ray mentioned that it was only a one day affair this year, and that we had good club participation, and he thanked Todd and Mike for organizing the booth. It was noted that our grill was used by another group at the FunFest, so we were there in more ways than one! Although we did not make a fortune, it was a great day for the community, and it was important that we were there.
New Business
>GRILL-The Travel Plaza rented the grill for their appreciation day. While they had it, they fixed a burner, filled it with gas, and they paid us $50 for renting it! Please thank Eric Hayman the next time you see him!
>SCHOOL-Todd reported that he was contacted by the school with a request. Bill Boyette, who is the head of the cafeteria, told Todd that the new superintendent asked him to contact the Lions Club about having a Lions Day at the school. He had done it at previous schools and thought it would be a good way for him to meet some folks from the community. Larry Haltom made a motion to contact the school to see if we could meet there on our regularly scheduled evening in November, and Dave seconded it. The motion carried. Todd will contact the school.
>Entertainment-President Ray Baker introduced Kevin Dean, a sixth grade student that the club helped sponsor in the People to People Ambassador program. Kevin started by thanking the club for our support. The then went on to tell about his 14 day trip to Canada with 36 other students from Indiana. They visited Vancouver and Calgary. They saw many sites in Banff National Park. They went whale watching, and spent time on a working ranch. They spent several nights at different universities, as well as one night in a tee pee! Two of the highlights of the trip were rappelling off the side of a mountain(more than 100 foot!) and walking on a glacier. He even got to drink water from the glacier! Kevin brought many items that he got on the trip. It is safe to say that it was a trip that he will always remember!
